Tomorrow is the start of November and the beginning of NaNoWriMo. NanoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month. It’s a website that encourages developing writers to attempt a whole novel in one month, as a kind of motivational tool. It started in the early 2000’s and is going strong.
You know people are serious about building a tradition when they give themselves heraldry!
It’s not a competition, but people who complete their fifty thousand words are called winners. Last year I participated for the first time and won – though the novel I ended up writing came in at 103k words and so I needed more than November to finish it. But I did write fifty thousand words in one month. It’s a demanding ask, but worth the effort. I’ll be self publishing the book I wrote last year very soon, ideally before the end of November. I will keep people up to date here (and everywhere I can). I’ll show off the cover design soon.
And so tomorrow a new NaNo – NaNo 2016 – will start and I will be going for it again. I’ll be starting book two to the story I wrote last year. My hope, obviously, is to start a series of books I can sell, to share my stories with the world. So a busy and challenging month ahead, but if it goes as well as last year, it’ll be truly worth it.
